Viscoelastic fluids are a subclass of rheologically complex materials that are important in diverse natural and industrial processes, from polymers and glasses to a variety of environmental and biological fluids.
Understanding the complex and fascinating viscoelastic flow instabilities has been a continuing challenge. To describe recent advances and encourage innovative efforts to address outstanding problems in experiment, theory, and simulation, PRFluids has published the invited paper “Perspectives on viscoelastic flow instabilities and elastic turbulence” summarizing discussions and results of a virtual workshop of the Princeton Center for Theoretical Sciences held in January 2021. The intent of this Perspective is to provide a useful resource for the community going forward.
While PRFluids has previously published Perspective papers on various fluid dynamics topics in the past, this is the first to be published in a new Perspectives section of the journal intended for this purpose.
