Shedding light on the small-scale crisis with CMB spectral distortions

Tomohiro Nakama, Jens Chluba, and Marc Kamionkowski

Phys. Rev. D 95, 121302(R) (2017) - Published 28 June, 2017

Small-scale crisis describes the discrepancy between simulations and observations for sub-galactic structure formation. The authors argue that measuring the chemical potential deviation of the CMB from the black body spectrum (“µ-distortion”) can decide if it originates in the early Universe or at later times, thus distinguishing between new physics during inflation and exotic dark matter interactions.

Are merging black holes born from stellar collapse or previous mergers?

Davide Gerosa and Emanuele Berti

Phys. Rev. D 95, 124046 (2017) - Published 26 June, 2017

Astrophysical black holes arise either from the collapse of stars or through previous binary black hole mergers. What can we say about the populations of ”first generation” and ”second generation” black holes participating in binary mergers? This paper shows how one can test models of these populations using gravitational wave astronomy of binary mergers.

Yet another family of diagonal metrics for de Sitter and anti–de Sitter spacetimes

Jiří Podolský and Ondřej Hruška

Phys. Rev. D 95, 124052 (2017) - Published 28 June, 2017

The authors introduce a new class of coordinate representations of de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spacetimes and systematically study all possible subclasses. Using these results, they provide a physical interpretation in terms of gravitational fields of a tachyon

Chern-Simons five-form and holographic baryons

Pak Hang Chris Lau and Shigeki Sugimoto

Phys. Rev. D 95, 126007 (2017) - Published 16 June, 2017

Holography based on the gauge-gravity duality is a possible framework to describe the strong coupling regime of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The authors propose a refinement of an existing holographic theory of QCD to describe the spectrum of baryons.
