Comparing readout strategies to directly detect dark matter

J. Billard

Phys. Rev. D 91, 023513 (2015) - Published 21 January, 2015

A theoretical study outlines the best strategies for identifying weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) in dark matter detectors.

Dissipative hidden sector dark matter

R. Foot and S. Vagnozzi

Phys. Rev. D 91, 023512 (2015) - Published 21 January, 2015

The authors propose a simple way of explaining dark matter, without modifying the standard model, by positing a hidden sector containing two stable particles, which interact with the visible sector primarily via gravity. The paper discusses cosmological and astrophysical consequences of such a model, showing that it can provide a satisfactory explanation for a number of dark matter phenomena.

Planck data reconsidered

David N. Spergel, Raphael Flauger, and Renée Hložek

Phys. Rev. D 91, 023518 (2015) - Published 27 January, 2015

The authors perform an independent analysis of the Planck data and discuss the tension between the parameters (Hubble constant etc.) derived by the Planck team and those obtained from a number of other astronomical measurements. They find that a particular data set (217 GHz maps) drives this tension, which they are able to decrease, confirming the standard six parameter ΛCDM model.

Universality of the hard-loop action

Alina Czajka and Stanisław Mrówczyński

Phys. Rev. D 91, 025013 (2015) - Published 14 January, 2015

The authors show that at high temperature, and to leading order in weak coupling, the effective action for all gauge theories in four dimensions, from quantum electrodynamics (QED) to maximally supersymmetric gauge theory (N=4 SUSY), has a universal form.
