The Brief Reports section, which in recent years has contained less than five percent of all the papers published in PRD, was originally intended for the publication of short articles with limited scope that satisfied the usual publication criteria, but did not reach the same level of completeness as a regular article. There was often confusion among authors and referees about these criteria, with some mistakenly interpreting them to mean that the scientific standards for Brief Reports were lower than for other articles in Physical Review D. Moreover, since such manuscripts are supposed to be held to the same high standards as all other regular articles, they should not be relegated to a separate section at the end of the journal Table of Contents. In view of this, like other Physical Review journals, PRD has decided to discontinue the Brief Reports section. We emphasize that there is no minimum length for regular articles, and we will continue to publish short papers that satisfy the usual acceptance criteria.
We will stop accepting submissions to the Brief Reports section, including transfers, as of February 1, 2015, and we will stop publishing the Brief Reports section as of July 1, 2015.
