Comment on U(6) × O(2)-Symmetry Breaking

Abstract

It is shown that if U(6) × O(2) symmetry is "l-broken," then there must exist Carlitz-Kislinger (CK) branch points in the complex angular momentum plane. In view of experimental and theoretical indications against their existence, modifications of "l breaking" are considered that do not lead to CK cuts. The approach to U(6) × O(2) breaking based on the Melosh transformation and on the partial conservation of axial-vector currents appears to be free of this difficulty.
