Comparison of the Parton and Generalized Vector-Dominance Analyses of Deep-Inelastic Electron-Nucleon Scattering

Abstract
It is shown that, while generalized vector dominance is strictly applicable in the diffractive limit (, any such that ) of electron-nucleon scattering and the parton model is applicable in the scaling limit ( fixed), these two models are identical for describing the deep diffractive limit (, ). This equivalence is then used to interpret the different contributions of vector hadronic states which couple to the photon. A new scaling variable comes out naturally from our analysis.
