Abstract

We investigate, from the point of view of an inertial frame, the response rate of a uniformly accelerated point source interacting with a massless real scalar field in Minkowski vacuum submitted to boundary conditions on a surface of general shape with walls parallel to the source moving direction. Following the procedure developed by Higuchi, Matsas, and Sudarsky, we show that the same response rate is obtained in the coaccelerated frame assuming the existence of the Fulling-Davies-Unruh thermal bath and imposing the same boundary conditions to the thermal field. We compute the explicit form of the response rate for the case of a rectangular waveguide where Dirichlet boundary conditions are imposed to the field, obtaining a considerable inhibition of this rate for realistic tube width and particle acceleration.
