Abstract

The Deck model for diffraction dissociation is revised to satisfy an eikonal representation. The theory is applied unsuccessfully to the $A_{1}$ enhancement in $π^{-} p \to ρ^{0} π^{-} p$ . The conventional double-Regge model of this reaction is shown to be inadequate also. Further directions are suggested.
