Stability of Protons and Electrons and Limits on Tachyon Masses

Abstract
Danburg and Kalbfleisch interpreted the absence of observable proton decays in their recent experiment in terms of a very small value for the coupling constant mediating the decay of a proton into itself and a tachyon. In drawing this conclusion, the authors had to assume that the imaginary mass of neutral tachyons is ≳100 MeV, which was a limitation set by their experimental conditions. We point out other experimental evidence that can be used to limit the imaginary mass of neutral tachyons to values ≲ eV.
