Abstract

We find a coupling of pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons to other (ordinary) scalars, and consider its importance in various contexts. Our original motivation was the model of double field inflation. We also briefly consider the role of this coupling for the case of the QCD axion.

  10. In [6] we showed that sufficient inflation with only one scalar field, a PNGB, required f sim m lP. Here the other field is responsible for the inflation, yet the length of time the inflation spends in the false vacuum is roughly the time the rolling field takes to get to the bottom of its potential. Thus the number of e foldings is roughly the same to order 1 as those calculated for natural inflation in [6].
