Abstract

The quark-model multiple-scattering relations have been rederived using the formalism of Goldberger and Watson instead of the Glauber formalism used by all authors previously. It is shown that deep binding of the quarks need not invalidate the use of the impulse approximation and that definite limits may be placed on the angular range of validity of the formulas. For an incident momentum of 5 GeVc in the center-of-momentum frame, the conventional multiple-scattering formulas are estimated to be reasonably accurate for a momentum transfer squared less than 3 (GeVc)2.
