Abstract

We show that the recent measurements of the total Z0 width and the peak hadronic cross section at CERN LEP lead to, with very mild assumptions, the bounds mν̃>36 GeV, ml̃L>38 GeV, and md̃L>33 GeV. For the minimal supersymmetric model, we are able to derive the additional bounds MW̃>37 GeV, MZ̃3>57 GeV on the mass of the lighter chargino and third lightest neutralino, respectively, while the bound on md̃L is strengthened to 39 GeV. Finally, some improved strategies for searches of new physics using the peak cross section are commented on.
