Abstract
A new convergent, nonperturbative parton (straton) dual-resonance model for deep-inelastic and high-energy production processes is proposed. The model incorporates the parton's final-state interaction effects and resolves the puzzle why the parton is not observed experimentally. It does not require a "cutoff" of any sort, and automatically furnishes explicit formulas for the structure functions and over the whole range of the scaling variable between 0 and . The explicit formula for , apart from a nonscaling factor of , correctly reproduces the Regge limit (), the "fixed-angle" limits (), and the threshold behaviors () in connection with the asymptotic nucleon form factors. For the annihilation process, it further predicts the pionization (nucleonization) limit as . We also suggest that the final-state interaction is of the diffractive type (Pomeranchukon exchange); and it breaks the scaling law by the factor .
