Abstract

If the amplitude for diffraction scattering is independent of the universal slope of the ordinary Regge trajectories, there results a helicity selection rule, which corresponds to $s$ -channel helicity conservation for the diffractive part of $π p \to π p$ and $γ p \to ρ^{0} p$ , in accordance with experiment. A crucial test of the selection rule is that electroproduced $ρ^{0}$ 's should be transversely polarized at high energy.
