Abstract

If the amplitude for diffraction scattering is independent of the universal slope of the ordinary Regge trajectories, there results a helicity selection rule, which corresponds to s-channel helicity conservation for the diffractive part of πpπp and γpρ0p, in accordance with experiment. A crucial test of the selection rule is that electroproduced ρ0's should be transversely polarized at high energy.
