Abstract

The equations of Raininch's "already unified field theory" are studied from the standpoint of continuous groups of motions, and a solution is presented for the case where the electromagnetic field is nonstatic and the space-time admits a three-parameter continuous group of motions whose minimum-invariant varieties are three-dimensional spaces. One may state that, for values of t for which the metric is not singular, the divergence-free electromagnetic fields could appear to be due to some phantom charges which might have pervaded all space at the singular epochs.
