Abstract

We analyze a class of grand-unified theories and show that, if one accepts severe fine tuning of many parameters, it is possible to satisfy all the physical constraints that one would like to impose for an inflationary universe scenario. We include some post-inflation constraints, such as the usual zero-temperature hierarchy, as well as the constraints that arise directly from the inflationary period. The new feature of our analysis is that we study a slow-rollover transition between two broken-symmetry minima, rather that the usual Coleman-Weinberg case of a symmetric to brokensymmetry transition.
