Search for <span class="aps-inline-formula"><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>B</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>*</mo></mrow></msup></mrow><mo>→</mo><mi>B</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>γ</mi></math></span> and limits on the <span class="aps-inline-formula"><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>B</mi></math></span>-meson mass

The CUSB detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring was used to measure the inclusive photon spectrum at the $ϒ^{'''} (10.55)$ . In ∼5000 $ϒ^{'''}$ events we see no obvious ∼50-MeV photon signal from $B^{*} \to B + γ$ decays and obtain an upper limit on the branching ratio for $ϒ^{'''} \to B B^{*}$ of ∼10% with a 90% confidence level. From the lack of a photon signal and the observed width of the $ϒ^{'''}$ , we deduce limits on the $B$ -meson mass of $[\frac{M (ϒ^{'''})}{2 - 25} MeV] < M_{B} < [\frac{M (ϒ^{'''})}{2} - 10 MeV]$ .
