Abstract

The possibility of introducing SU(N) antisymmetric Higgs fields is raised, and a pattern of spontaneous symmetry breaking by an antisymmetric Higgs field is presented in terms of quartic coupling constants. A detailed application is given for breaking an SU(7) gauge symmetry to a realistic SU(3)c×SU(2)×U(1) by two antisymmetric fields Hαβ and Hαβγ.
