Abstract
We examine the assumption that the meson (1220 MeV, ) and its chiral partner are gauge fields. This leads to the introduction of an internal group which contains as a sub-group. We discuss the appropriate formalism and mass degeneracy breaking by means of the use of non-linear realizations of the group.
