Abstract
The amplitude for the process given in terms of a five-point generalized Veneziano function is shown to remove an inconsistency in the application of the Veneziano method to the process in which the first process is known to dominate. A determination of the relevant residue function consistent with other information leads to a value of the neutral pion lifetime in good agreement with experiment, provided use is made of the idea of effective width of the meson.
