Abstract

The author proposes a phenomenological model for a possible failure of the Pomeranchuk theorem. This predicts the following relations among asymptotic total cross sections: σT(πp)σT(π+p)=σT(Kn)σT(K+n), σT(K+p)=σT(K+n), 23[σT(Kn)σT(K+n)]σT(Kp)σT(K+p)2[σT(Kn)σT(K+n)], σT(pp)=σT(pn), and 23[σT(p¯n)σT(pn)]σT(p¯p)σT(pp)2[σT(p¯n)σT(pn)]. All of these are consistent with the recent Serpukhov data.
