Abstract

Elastic scattering at small angles in the reaction $π^{-} p \to π^{-} p$ has been investigated for Regge recurrences in the region 1.71-3.01 GeV/c. From examination of differential-cross-section data at low $t$ values (see preceding paper), we find additional evidence for the existence of both the established $N_{γ} (2210)$ and the predicted $N_{α} (2220)$ . The resonance parameters obtained for the $N_{α} (2220)$ are mass 2245 MeV, width 330 MeV, elasticity 0.15.
