Abstract
We have measured prompt dimuon production from the interactions of 28.5-GeV protons with nuclear targets. The dimuon differential cross section and the prompt-muon-to-pion ratio are equal within errors to that found at an incident proton beam energy of 400 GeV. The atomic-number dependence is found to be the same as that of the total proton-nucleon cross section. The dimuon invariant-mass distribution is presented.
