Abstract

Using the analyticity and crossing properties of the amplitudes in conjunction with the low-energy theorems, dispersion inequalities involving integrals of the forward Compton-scattering differential cross sections for photons polarized parallel and antiparallel to the proton spin are established. In particular, a set of two coupled inequalities shows that these cross sections in the energy region from zero up to the threshold of photoproducing a single pion are severely restricted by integrals over their values above this threshold. The results obtained are model-independent and optimal with respect to the information taken as known.
