Abstract

The contribution of Ne'eman's fifth χ interaction to the muon-proton cross section is shown to be in disagreement with recent experimental results. This conclusion is based upon the value of gχ suggested by Ne'eman, the value of gχmχ consistent with high-energy pp scattering, and the assumption that the χ form factors are not appreciably different from the one-photon-exchange form factors. The conclusion is not changed by a reasonable variation of the values of gχ and mχ.
