A magnetic insulator, LiInCr4O8 realizes a so-called “breathing” pyrochlore lattice of S=3/2 spins on corner-sharing tetrahedra that alternate in size. In this manuscript, a collaboration of researchers from Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble and Institute for Solid State Physics in Tokyo present a detailed neutron scattering study that elucidates the sequence of structural and magnetic phase transitions that occur at low temperatures in this material.
