Generalization of the time-dependent numerical renormalization group method to finite temperatures and general pulses

H. T. M. Nghiem and T. A. Costi

Phys. Rev. B 89, 075118 (2014) - Published 18 February, 2014

This paper generalizes to arbitrary temperature the time-dependent numerical renormalization group (NRG), a widely used approach for calculating the response of a quantum-impurity system subjected to a sudden local change. A scheme for multiple quenches is also presented.

Correlation between metal-insulator transitions and structural distortions in high-electron-density SrTiO3 quantum wells

Jack Y. Zhang, Clayton A. Jackson, Ru Chen, Santosh Raghavan, Pouya Moetakef, Leon Balents, and Susanne Stemmer

Phys. Rev. B 89, 075140 (2014) - Published 28 February, 2014

SrTiO3 quantum wells exhibit very different transport behavior when sandwiched between layers of SmTiO3 versus GdTiO3, with structural distortions playing an important role.

Relaxation of optically excited carriers in graphene: Anomalous diffusion and Lévy flights

U. Briskot, I. A. Dmitriev, and A. D. Mirlin

Phys. Rev. B 89, 075414 (2014) - Published 13 February, 2014

This relaxation is peculiar due to the Dirac nature of the fermions in graphene. For example, the cascade of energy jumps is statistically described by Lévy processes.

Dynamics of spin-flip photon-assisted tunneling

F. R. Braakman, J. Danon, L. R. Schreiber, W. Wegscheider, and L. M. K. Vandersypen

Phys. Rev. B 89, 075417 (2014) - Published 18 February, 2014

To use spin-flip photon-assisted tunneling (PAT) to couple two-electron spin states in quantum information processing, identifying its parameters is essential. The authors estimate the spin-flip PAT coupling strength and relaxation and dephasing timescales for double quantum dots.
