Supersymmetry method for interacting chaotic and disordered systems: The Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model

The supersymmetry technique has proven to be an efficient method for studying disordered and chaotic systems as well as random matrix models. So far, it has been used for noninteracting systems only. Here, contrary to general belief, the robust methodology of supersymmetry to handle disordered and chaotic many-body systems is shown to work in effectively zero space dimensions. Within this framework, nonperturbative results are obtained for the celebrated Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev non-Fermi-liquid theory.

Entropy-controlled fully reversible nanostructure formation of Ge on miscut vicinal Si(001) surfaces

In vivo high-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy reveals that entropy effects substantially modify the growth of self-assembled Ge nanostructures on vicinal Si (001) surfaces. Due to the resulting free surface energy renormalization, the resulting 1D nanowire structures can be completely erased and reformed without changes in size and composition. The critical temperature for this transition scales with the Ge thickness and provides a deterministic control of sizes and shapes. Thus, highly reproducible nanostructures with tunable geometries and dimensions are obtained.

In vivo high-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy reveals that entropy effects substantially modify the growth of self-assembled Ge nanostructures on vicinal Si (001) surfaces. Due to the resulting free surface energy renormalization, the resulting 1D nanowire structures can be completely erased and reformed without changes in size and composition. The critical temperature for this transition scales with the Ge thickness and provides a deterministic control of sizes and shapes. Thus, highly reproducible nanostructures with tunable geometries and dimensions are obtained.
