Abstract

Mössbauer and chemical analysis studies, of (CH)x oxidized chemically with FeCl3 or oxidized electro-chemically in LiCl-FeCl3 -CH3NO2, show that only FeCl4 species exists in the system. The Fe2+ appears either as a degradation product, or as a result of washing with nitromethane that is not properly dried, and forms a separate phase of FeCl2·nH2O (n=1, 2, or 4).
