Abstract

The forbidden transitions of the type Δm=±1 for Mn2+ in single crystals of calcite have been investigated at X-band frequencies. The results can be fitted with the spin Hamiltonian H=gμBH·S+B20O20+B20O20+B40O40+B43O43+C43O43+A(SxIz)+B(SxIx+SyIy)gNμN(H·I)+Q[Iz213I(I+1)]+Q(Ix2Iy2)]. At room temperature, the best computer fit for the parameter is g=2.0019±0.0006,      g=2.0018±0.0006,B20=24.99±0.10,         B40=0.0397±0.0002,    A=87.01±0.04,              B=87.26±0.04,  Q=0.174±0.1,     Qcos2φ=0.065±0.1, B43cos3φC43sin3φ=0.542±0.04 (all in units of 104 cm1); gNμN=(10.11±2.0)×1024 erg/G.
