Physical Review Applied marks a year of publication with the first in a series of reviews of topical areas in applied physics. This first review, by Ra’di, Simovski, and Tretyakov Phys. Rev. Applied 3, 037001 (2015), focuses on thin perfect absorbers: metamaterials of growing importance for applications ranging from terahertz sensing to advanced photovoltaics. In the coming months, watch for other reviews in biomedicine, energy storage, spintronic devices, and other topics.
Community feedback on Physical Review Applied has been consistently positive. PRApplied is viewed at a steadily growing rate that has reached well over 20000 times monthly, we have been recognized by Thomson Reuters for inclusion in the 2015 Journal Citation Reports, and our papers have already been cited and covered in the press numerous times. For example, circuits that mimic brain function, nanoscale chiral logic gates, techniques to measure trace gases from a kilometer away, and a new analysis of how the inner ear functions: all of these and more have attracted national and international attention.
We thank our authors, Editorial Board, and reviewers, without whose help this progress would not have been possible. We depend on your submissions and your support, and we reinforce our invitation for papers that are forward thinking and provide a clear vision for future directions in applied physics.
