Universal control induced by noise

Christian Arenz, Daniel Burgarth, Paolo Facchi, Vittorio Giovannetti, Hiromichi Nakazato, Saverio Pascazio, and Kazuya Yuasa

Phys. Rev. A 93, 062308 (2016) - Published 6 June, 2016

It is known that noise can sometimes be beneficial for quantum information processing. This idea is now further explored as it is shown that strong dissipation can be used to project a quantum system in a subspace free of decoherence, allowing one to achieve universal controllability and to raise the fidelity of quantum gates.

Practical quantum retrieval games

Phys. Rev. A 93, 062311 (2016) - Published 7 June, 2016

A general method to construct quantum retrieval games, a generalization of quantum state discrimination, is proposed. The authors introduce a procedure to implement such games by employing coherent states of light, thus adding another tool to quantum cryptography.

Probing and extracting the structure of vibrating SF6 molecules with inner-shell photoelectrons

Ngoc-Ty Nguyen, R. R. Lucchese, C. D. Lin, and Anh-Thu Le

Phys. Rev. A 93, 063419 (2016) - Published 21 June, 2016

A scheme for probing molecular vibrations is proposed by analyzing inner-shell-photoionization signals that use a weak infrared laser pump pulse to excite the vibrational mode, followed by an ultrashort soft-x-ray probe. It is shown, for SF6 molecules, that the sensitivity of the photoionization cross section to the molecular structure can be used to extract nuclear dynamical information in real time.

Laser-subcycle control of sequential double-ionization dynamics of helium

Markus S. Schöffler, Xinhua Xie (谢新华), Philipp Wustelt, Max Möller, Stefan Roither, Daniil Kartashov, A. Max Sayler, Andrius Baltuska, Gerhard G. Paulus, and Markus Kitzler

Phys. Rev. A 93, 063421 (2016) - Published 24 June, 2016

Electron correlation in sequential double ionization of helium is studied experimentally with the “attoclock” technique. Control of the two-electron emission dynamics is demonstrated on the time scale of a half laser cycle.

Impact of many-body correlations on the dynamics of an ion-controlled bosonic Josephson junction

J. M. Schurer, R. Gerritsma, P. Schmelcher, and A. Negretti

Phys. Rev. A 93, 063602 (2016) - Published 1 June, 2016

The dynamics of a bosonic Josephson junction in the presence of a trapped ion is studied with different computational techniques, where the control of the many-body physics in the self-trapped regime and the tunneling regime is validated and described.

Quantum backaction and noise interference in asymmetric two-cavity optomechanical systems

Yariv Yanay, Jack C. Sankey, and Aashish A. Clerk

Phys. Rev. A 93, 063809 (2016) - Published 8 June, 2016

Optomechanical systems are typically affected by backaction noise, hindering their applicability to quantum measurements. While previous studies suggested that the effect could be completely suppressed, a  thorough analysis taking into account realistic conditions shows that this is not the general case.

Dynamical zeroing of spin-wave momentum to suppress motional dephasing in an atomic-ensemble quantum memory

Yan Jiang, Jun Rui, Xiao-Hui Bao, and Jian-Wei Pan

Phys. Rev. A 93, 063819 (2016) - Published 10 June, 2016

Atomic motion plays a detrimental role in atom-gas quantum memories. To circumvent the problem, a “freezing” pulse technique is experimentally investigated, demonstrating extended storage time and unrestricted detection angle.

Implementation of chiral quantum optics with Rydberg and trapped-ion setups

Benoît Vermersch, Tomás Ramos, Philipp Hauke, and Peter Zoller

Phys. Rev. A 93, 063830 (2016) - Published 17 June, 2016

In a “chiral” quantum network, the directionality of emission into photonic waveguides provides a new tool to realize quantum communication. Two different architectures with purely atomic waveguides are thoroughly investigated as possible building blocks for such networks, providing a path for implementations within state-of-the-art technology.

It is shown, for SF6 molecules, that the sensitivity of the photoionization cross section to the molecular structure can be used to extract nuclear dynamical information in real time.
