Security bounds for decoy-state quantum key distribution with arbitrary photon-number statistics

Giulio Foletto, Francesco Picciariello, Costantino Agnesi, Paolo Villoresi, and Giuseppe Vallone

Phys. Rev. A 105, 012603 (2022) - Published 6 January, 2022

Typically, descriptions of decoy-state quantum key distribution involve the assumption of Poissonian photon-number statistics. Here, the authors extend this to an arbitrary distribution in order to better model implementations that use non–laser light source technology, like LEDs and quantum dots.

Improved analytical bounds on delivery times of long-distance entanglement

Tim Coopmans, Sebastiaan Brand, and David Elkouss

Phys. Rev. A 105, 012608 (2022) - Published 20 January, 2022

The ability to distribute high-quality entanglement between remote parties is a key element of many quantum network applications, and knowledge of the time at which entanglement is delivered is crucial for assessing the viability of different approaches. In this work, the authors provide improved analytical bounds on the average and on the quantiles of the completion time of entanglement distribution protocols in the case that all network components have success probabilities lower bounded by a constant.

Resonant generation of electromagnetic modes in nonlinear electrodynamics: Classical approach

Ilia Kopchinskii and Petr Satunin

Phys. Rev. A 105, 013508 (2022) - Published 5 January, 2022

The authors study the possibility of resonant amplification of electromagnetic modes generated by a nonlinear effect in Euler-Heisenberg electrodynamics. Notably, the authors show the absence of resonant amplification of the third harmonics and combined “plus” modes. These results could be useful for the possible measurements of the Euler-Heisenberg terms.

Ghost projection

David Ceddia and David M. Paganin

Phys. Rev. A 105, 013512 (2022) - Published 11 January, 2022

The authors propose an image-projection strategy that utilizes spatially resolved random masks to project an arbitrary desired image up to an additive constant. The theoretical limits of the signal-to-noise ratios are analyzed and a comparison with existing image-projection techniques is discussed.

Two-photon-interaction effects in the bad-cavity limit

Nicolò Piccione, Simone Felicetti, and Bruno Bellomo

Phys. Rev. A 105, L011702 (2022) - Published 26 January, 2022

Taking advantage of recently developed adiabatic elimination techniques, the authors investigate two-photon light-matter interactions in a system comprised of an oscillator and a collection of qubits operating in the “bad-cavity” regime. They derive a general master equation which unveils some unexpected effects of two-photon couplings, like a richer dependence on temperature of the collective quantum phenomena with respect to the one-photon-coupling case.

The theoretical limits of the signal-to-noise ratios are analyzed and a comparison with existing image-projection techniques is discussed.
