All wavelengths quoted in this paper are measured in air.
By a velocity group, we mean atoms whose velocity components parallel to the laser beams are essentially zero.
The scanning of an external cavity diode laser can exhibit small nonuniformities or nonlinearities due to (i) competition between the resonances of the laser’s internal and external cavities and (ii) nonlinearity in the expansion of the piezoelectric crystal that tunes the external cavity.
These commercially available diode lasers are manufactured or distributed by Sharp, Sanyo, Toptica, Roithner, Thorlabs, and Optima Precision.
