Lib4RI – Library for the Research Institutes within the ETH Domain: Eawag, Empa, PSI & WSL Open Access Agreement

APS and Lib4RI have an Open Access Agreement to support Swiss institutions and authors publishing Open Access in hybrid open access Physical Review journals. The institutions eligible for the agreement are listed below.

Lib4RI Open Access Arrangement Terms and Conditions

Agreement Period: April 8, 2024 - December 31, 2026, inclusive of both dates

Open Access Publishing
Eligible articles published in participating titles under this arrangement will be published with a CC-BY license at no cost to authors.

Included Institutions: Please review the list of participating institutions included in this arrangement.

Participating Journals - The costs of publishing on an open access basis in the following journals are centrally covered by the interim arrangement:

Hybrid journals

Eligible articles may also be posted to open access repositories with a CC-BY license without embargo.

Non-Participating Journals - Authors also may submit to and publish in the following non-participating Open Access journals.

An open access article publication charge (APC) may be due in these journals. We recommend contacting your library who may have funding available to support open access fees.

APS also publishes a subscription only reviews title:

Author Eligibility Criteria
Eligible Authors are:

  1. officially affiliated with one of the Lib4RI institutions listed below, and
  2. identified as the corresponding author in the initial instance of submission of a manuscript to one of the participating Physical Review Journals.
    • The eligible author cannot be changed after initial submission, including when the manuscript is transferred to another APS journal and where the corresponding author is changed.

Article Eligibility Criteria
Eligible Articles:

  1. are submitted by an Eligible Author,
  2. list one of the institutions below as the affiliation of the Eligible Author,
  3. are accepted for publication by a Participating Journal during the Agreement Period, and
  4. are of one of the article types acceptable under the policies of the Participating Journal, including but not limited to: Regular Articles, Letters, Rapid Communications, Reviews, Perspectives, and Short Papers.

Article Cap: There is no cap under this agreement, and eligible authors may publish unlimited articles.

SCOAP3
APS’s participation in SCOAP3 is fully considered and integrated into this agreement. Authors publishing their high-energy physics (HEP) research open access under SCOAP3 may continue to do so as usual. The purpose of this arrangement is to provide centrally funded open access publishing services for authors publishing non-HEP research, and as such it complements APS’ participation in SCOAP3.

Included institutions

Articles submitted by corresponding authors affiliated with the following institutions are eligible to be published open access:

  • Paul Scherrer Institute
  • Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa)
  • Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research
  • Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag)

Read Access: All institutions taking part in the open access agreement will have access to the full APS package including all Physical Review journals and Reviews of Modern Physics.
