A collection of articles based on original research presented at the 6th International Computational Accelerator Physics Conference (September 11 - 14, 2000, Darmstadt University of Technology).
Physical Review Special Topics – Accelerators and Beams (PRST-AB) is publishing a conference edition for 6th International Computational Accelerator Physics Conference (ICAP 2000, http://www.ICAP2000.de) that will be held September 11 - 14, 2000 at the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany. Prof. Thomas Weiland of the Darmstadt University of Technology, also conference chair, will act as the special editor of this edition.
PRST-AB is an all-electronic journal published by the American Physical Society. The all-electronic nature of the journal allows "conference editions" and "special editions" while maintaining thorough peer review and timely publication. There is an important, new aspect of the ICAP 2000 Conference Edition compared to the special editions offered for other conferences. These other conferences had printed proceedings, but ICAP 2000 will not. The Conference Edition will be the opportunity to publish important new results presented at the conference.
Conference attendees are invited to submit manuscripts for initial consideration to the conference office. The deadline is the first day of the conference, and the manuscripts should be submitted in hardcopy. Authors are encouraged to prepare their manuscripts using the PRST-AB templates available through links on the PRST-AB home page. This will substantially simplify subsequent submission to PRST-AB. The ICAP 2000 Program Committee will make a first review of the papers and notify authors within two weeks of the end of the conference whether their paper is recommended for submission to PRST-AB. Authors should then submit to PRST-AB using the procedure found through links on the PRST-AB home page. Papers will be reviewed through the normal refereeing procedure, and if accepted for publication they will be published as regular PRST-AB articles and as part of the ICAP 2000 Conference Edition. Publication will be timely; articles will be published as soon as they are ready with no delay waiting for other papers presented at the conference. In addition, the ICAP 2000 Table Of Contents will be updated each time a paper is published.
In keeping with PRST-AB policy papers must contain important new results in science and/or technology. Confirmation of previously published results of unusual importance can be considered as new, as can significant null results. In general, authors should keep review material to a minimum. Even so, some review and reprise of past work is appropriate if the paper can be made more understandable and self-contained thereby. Papers cannot be duplicates of work submitted for publication to another journal. Material previously published, or submitted for publication, in a Letters journal or in conference proceedings can be the basis of an article in PRST-AB provided the submitted manuscript presents more information, enabling the reader to obtain an improved understanding of the subject.
