Physical Review Accelerators and Beams

Physical Review Special Topics – Accelerators and Beams (PRST-AB) is offering a Special Edition for the 27^th International Free Electron Laser Conference that was held August 21 - 26, 2005 in Stanford, California, USA  (http://www-ssrl.slac.stanford.edu/lcls/fel2005/). Drs. Heinz-Dieter Nuhn of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and Claudio Pellegrini of the University of California, Los Angeles will be the editors of this special edition, which offers the opportunity to expand upon original research presented at FEL 2005 in a peer-reviewed journal.

PRST-AB is a peer-reviewed, all-electronic journal published by the American Physical Society. The all-electronic nature allows "Special Editions" while maintaining thorough peer review and timely publication. Articles based on FEL 2005 papers and submitted to PRST-AB will be reviewed through the normal refereeing procedure. If accepted for publication, they will be published as regular PRST-AB articles. Publication will be timely; articles will be published as soon as they are ready, without waiting for other papers presented at the conference to be published. In addition, a special FEL 2005 Table Of Contents will be created at the PRST-AB website with links to the published papers. It will be updated each time a paper related to FEL 2005 is published.

In keeping with PRST-AB policy papers must contain either important new results in science and/or technology or review active areas of accelerator and particle beam research. Papers in the first category must contain new results. Confirmation of previously published results of unusual importance can be considered as new, as can significant null results. Review articles should review active areas of research in a form that is useful to both practitioners and people entering the field. Authors are asked to give considerable attention to the presentation of their material, making introductions accessible to intermediate graduate students and readers from other fields. The body of each paper should be economically and thoughtfully organized.

Papers cannot be duplicates of work submitted for publication either to another journal or to the conference proceedings. Material previously published, or submitted for publication, in a Letters journal or in conference proceedings can be the basis of an article in PRST-AB provided the submitted manuscript presents more information, enabling the reader to obtain an improved understanding of the subject. There are several reasons why you should consider publishing in the FEL 2005 Special Edition.

1. PRST-AB is a peer-reviewed, APS journal. Peer-reviewed articles benefit from careful reading and criticism by a knowledgeable colleague, and acceptance of an article for publication can be important to one's career.
2. PRST-AB is available to everyone without subscription or pay-per-view fees, and PRST-AB is an archival journal. The APS is committed to maintaining that availability even as computer technology and software change.
3. PRST-AB has no page limits, so this is the opportunity to expand upon your work presented at the workshop without that limitation.
4. Your article will be published in a timely manner and grouped together with other work presented at FEL 2005.
