This work reports production cross sections for more than 190, mostly neutron-rich, isotopes in the region of the closed N=126 neutron shell, by fragmentation of a 208Pb beam. The work represents a step toward making regions located at the outermost borders of the chart of nuclides experimentally accessible with new-generation radioactive-beam facilities, such as nuclei near the A=195 nucleosynthesis ``waiting point''.

In order to describe pion electroproduction data above the nucleon resonance region, the authors introduce a gauged pion-exchange current and propose a new electromagnetic transition form factor. Unlike that of prior descriptions, this form factor has a simple physical interpretation and respects the correct on-shell limit.

The authors explore explosive nucleosynthesis of 15N with a simple but realistic model of shock propagation through the outer layers of an exploding massive star. They conclude that neutron-capture reactions on 18F in helium-rich stellar layers play an important role. The authors perform all calculations with open-source, freely available codes.
