Optical-Pumping Determination of the Nuclear Magnetic Moments of the Radioisotopes Mercury-193, -193m, -195m, and -197m

Abstract

The technique of optical pumping has been used to determine the nuclear magnetic dipole moment of spin-32, 4hHg193, and the spin-132 isomers, 10hHg193m, 40hHg195m, and 24hHg197m. Nuclear magnetic resonance was observed following orientation of the 6s2S01 ground state. The results are |μ193|=0.61763(18)μN, |μ193m|=1.0416(3)μN, |μ195m|=1.0280(2)μN, and |μ197m|=1.0112(3)μN, all without diamagnetic correction. Differential hfs anomalies, Δ, have been calculated with respect to stable Hg199 with the use of the previously determined values of the magnetic dipole hfs interaction constants for the 6s6pP13 level. We obtain Δ199193=0.0054(27), Δ199193m=0.0108(3), Δ199195m=0.0106(2), and Δ199197m=0.0105(6).
