Abstract

The most intense γ rays from capture of thermal neutrons in Kr86 are measured with pair and Compton-suppressed spectrometers. The Q value for the reaction is found to be 5515.4 ± 0.8 keV and the reaction cross section is estimated to be about 3 mb. Energy levels of the Kr87 nucleus observed in this study are compared with those seen in reaction studies and in the β decay of Br87.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Kr86 nthe,γ; measured Eγ, Iγ; Ge(Li) Compton suppression and pair spectrometers; deduced Q, σ; Kr87 deduced levels, J, π.
