Abstract

The diffusion coefficient of antimony tracers in single crystals of pure silver has been measured as a function of temperature over the range 468-942°C. The relation D=D0exp(HRT) was found to be obeyed with H=38320 cal/mole and D0=0.169 cm2/sec. These values are in marked disagreement with those appearing in the literature. The data suggest, in addition, that any variation with temperature in D0 of the form D0=D0Tn is such that n probably lies in the range 0 to +½. This implies that any temperature variation of H is probably less than 1 cal/mole deg.
