Hyperfine Structures of Silver and Gold by the Atomic Beam Magnetic Resonance Method

Abstract
An ionizer of the electron bombardment type has been applied to a beam of atoms in a magnetic resonance apparatus. The ionization efficiency for potassium atoms has been found to be 1 part in 3000. The new ionizer has made it possible to study the hyperfine structures and the factors of the ground states of silver and gold, two elements which cannot be detected by the surface ionization method commonly used heretofore. The measurements yield the following results:
