Abstract

A practical method is decribed for separating the He3 which occurs in well helium from the liquefied mixture using the "heat flush" technique. Approximately 2 liters/hr of liquid can be processed, a rate considerably in excess of any previous separations. When the separated isotope is finally withdrawn at room temperature, the concentration of He3 is approximately 0.5 percent. This concentration corresponds to an enrichment factor of 3×104, which is an order of magnitude greater than enrichment factors reported previously in the literature.
