Abstract

It has been shown that the mean number B(T) of discharges during any time T is given by B(T)=0T[1p(t)]a(t)dt, where a(t) is the total density of radiation penetrating the tube at the time t and p(t) is the solution of the integral equation: p(t)=tτt[1p(x)]a(x)d(x) for t>τ and p(t)=1eat for 0<~t<~τ. B(t) is explicitly obtained for the case that a(t) is constant. In this case it is also shown that aT=B(T)η1[B(T)η]τT,  |η|<~(aτ)21(aτ)2  for  aτ<1.
