Direct Determination of the Charge of the

Abstract
The charge of radium E was measured by first measuring the charge carried per second by a magnetically analyzed beam and then, after the beam had been reduced by a known fraction by the decay of the source, by counting the number of particles per second in the beam. The average value obtained was -±× e.s.u. in agreement with the accepted value of the charge of the electron. Also a half-life of days for radium E was observed. No dependence of either the charge or the half-life upon was detected.
