The Radium-Uranium Ratio and the Number of Actinouranium Isotopes

Abstract

The radium-uranium ratio V is given by E(112nB)Z where 2E and Z are respectively the numbers of alpha-particles emitted per sec. per g of U or of Ra; B is essentially equal to the actinium "branching" ratio; and n is the number of actinouranium isotopes. Data on V, E, Z and B are considered in order to determine whether n=1 or 2. The results speak strongly in favor of the existence of only one actinouranium isotope.
