The Masses of Ne20 and B11. The Mass of Ne22 and the Disintegration of F19

Abstract

The mass of Ne20 measured from ten spectra is 19.9967±0.0009. This value is outside the limit of error of Aston's measurement and an explanation for his high mass value is suggested. The mass of B11 was measured from two spectra as a test of the method used to determine the mass of Ne22. The mass of B11 from these measurements is 11.0107±0.001. The mass of Ne22 from five spectra is 21.9947±0.0009. The maximum value for the mass of Ne22 is 21.9925±0.0015 calculated from Aston's value for F19 and from the F19 disintegration experiments of Chadwick and Constable. The discrepancy between the two values for the mass of Ne22 is discussed.
