Abstract
The successes of the current-algebra method and the vector-meson dominance approach for -wave kaon-nucleon scattering lengths are taken to suggest the ansatz that in the absence of -channel singularities, low-energy -wave kaon-nucleon scattering is absent. This leads to certain sum rules which enable us to determine kaon-baryon coupling constants which agree very well with other estimates. These values of the coupling constants are then found to give a satisfactory fit to low-energy kaon-nucleon - and -wave phase shifts.
