Effect of an Electron-Acceptor Gas on the Optical Breakdown of Argon

Abstract
The effect of the addition of C on the optical breakdown threshold of argon is described. It is found that for slowly rising laser pulses, C inhibits breakdown, while for rapidly rising pulses, it enhances breakdown. The results are discussed in relation to existing breakdown theory.
